Work passes available in Singapore for foreign nationals:

Employment Pass (EP) – is for foreign professionals with a job offer in Singapore who meet the eligibility criteria. EP holders can bring in certain family members to Singapore if he/she earns at least S$ 5,000 a month.

EntrePass – is for foreign entrepreneurs of newly incorporated (to be incorporated) Singapore company. The pass is normally given for a period of 1 year and renewable upon meeting the renewal criteria.

An Entrepass holder can bring in certain family members to Singapore subject to following conditions:

  • only upon renewal (cannot bring in dependants on first application).
  • On meeting the minimum amount of business spending.
  • On creating the minimum number of local jobs.

Personalised Employment Pass (PEP) – is a pass that is not tied to a specific employer. Pass holders have greater job flexibility than with other work passes. It is issued up to a period of 3 years and is not renewable. PEP holders are eligible to bring in their spouses and children below 21 years of age on dependant’s pass and their parents on Long Term Visit Pass.

The persons eligible under PEP scheme.

  • An overseas foreign professional whose last drawn fixed monthly salary overseas was at least S$18,000. The last drawn salary should have been within 6 before the application.
  • An Employment Pass holder earning a fixed monthly salary of at least S$ 12,000.

 

Persons not eligible under PEP scheme

  • An Employment Pass holder under the sponsorship scheme.
  • A freelancer or a foreigner who intends to work on a freelance-basis.
  • A sole-proprietor, partner or director and shareholder in an ACRA registered company.
  • A journalist, editor, sub-editor or producer.

 

Benefits of the PEP

  • A PEP holder can hold job in any sector.
  • A PEP holder need not re-apply for a new pass if he changes his job.
  • A PEP holder can stay in Singapore for a continuous period of up to 6 months without a job to search for new employment.

S-Pass – is for mid-skilled employees who earn a minimum monthly salary of S$2,200. Employers are subject to a quota and levy. S Pass holders can bring in certain family members to Singapore if he/she earns at least S$ 5,000 a month.

Miscellaneous Work Pass – if for eligible foreigners on short-term work assignments, such as speakers, religious workers and journalists. It is issued up to a period of 60 days and not renewable. Miscellaneous work pass holders are not allowed to bring in their family members.

A foreigner performing at a public entertainment venue is not eligible to apply for a miscellaneous work pass.

Other immigration visa schemes

Dependant’s Pass – is a visa that is available to legally married spouse or unmarried children under 21 years of eligible Employment Pass or S Pass holders. The EP/S Pass holder must earn a minimum fixed monthly salary of S$5,000.

  1. Dependants of Employment Pass holders can apply for a Letter of Consent to work in Singapore if they find a job.
  2. Dependants of S Pass holders will need to apply for a Work Permit, S Pass or Employment Pass if they find a job.

Permanent Residence (PR)

  1. PR for individuals working in Singapore – under the scheme individuals working in Singapore on a work visa, Employment Pass, Entre Pass or S Pass are eligible.
  2. PR for investors – an individual can apply for Singapore permanent residence through an investment scheme known as Global Investor Programme (GIP). The individual can apply for PR for himself/herself and immediate family if he/she:
  • Possess at least 3 years of business and entrepreneurial record;
  • Is engaged in one or more of the specified industries;

The individual must invest:

At least S$2.50 million in a new business start-up or expansion of an existing business operation; or

At least S$2.50 million in a GIP-approved fund.
